wow it has been a long time since i posted. soooo much has happened, but i will try to give a short recap for those who care, my few, but devoted, followers.
we ended up having a wonderful goodbye party that was hosted by my brother and sister-in-law. many people came, putting my nightmare of no one showing up to rest. it was all a bit overwhelming as i wanted to really talk with everyone, but had to settle with merely chatting for a few minutes and then move on to other people. my sister-in-law rebecca made a wonderful cake decorated as the french flag. i'm sure the relatives in corsica will be pleased when they see the picture.
the last few weeks until we left on august 5th were a whirlwind of frenzied activity. every day was spent packing and errand-running and every evening was full of meeting up with friends and saying farewells. it was quite the job to pack up our four rubbermaid containers and i could not have done it as well if my mother-in-law had not been doing most of it :) she counted up that she has moved 28 times and so she is the acknowledged expert without a doubt. we had to move out the last weekend in july and that was a bit of a bittersweet day. henri had worked so fervently to finish the renovations to our house and boy! did it look wonderful. and then some stinky man moved all his manly leather furniture into it. well i'm not sure he was stinky, but all men are at one time or another. our tenant was very impressed with what we had done and so i take that to mean that he will be as nice to our house as possible.
we moved from our house in with my in-laws. overall it was a nice time, a few stressful moments as i had to finish packing my clothes and other items for our trip to russia. and then we spent two nights with henri's brother. it was also bittersweet to say goodbye to his kids as they are so little: 4, 2, and 7 months. we won't be able to see then grow except through video cam, but that is the life we have chosen.
well that's it for me for a while...
