hiya little missy,
i can't believe you are three months old already! the time is flying by so quickly. you are changing and growing so fast too!
christmas eve/day and new years were a little rough for you. your mama has been a bad girl and has not taken you out enough to be around other people. after days of quiet solitude and play with me in our apartment, the change to a house full of people and noisy kids was almost too much for you to handle. by new year's eve you had had enough and had the biggest melt down of your short little life. not even i could calm you down. that was a first and big blow to your mom's ego. needless to say it was a sweaty, stressful night for all of us. since then, i have endeavored to take you out more. i even left you with tata yvonne for an afternoon while i went shopping.
this past month was a wet one. you are one big drooler. if i don't put a bib on you, the front of your shirt is soaked in seconds. my mommy says i was the same way, so it's in the genes i guess. saliva is pretty harmless though so it could be worse. it is a bit worse when you have your puking days. sometimes i can't get ready to leave the house without you spitting up not just once, but two or three times all over a new clean outfit. christmas day i put on your new dress from meme. i sat you up and brought you to see daddy all of four steps away, and splat! puke right down the entire length of the dress! before we got to where we were going for christmas day lunch i took off your bib so i could show you off in your dress. of course you chose that time to spit up again. (picture one is of you and your cousin matteo, born 10 days after you. you seem quite a bit bigger than him though. they tell us that's because you have anglo-saxon genes. whatever, i say.)
you also stick everything you get your hands on into your mouth. i know this will be the case for months to come. you especially like to suck on your bib and after a reprieve of a month or two, your hands. more than once, i have woke up to the juicy sound of you sucking on your hands. (that's a picture of you eating your bib.)
you still sleep excellently through the night. it's during the day that you sleep sporadically. we've taken to taking your morning nap together on the couch. when my sister, your auntie hannah, was a baby, she used to cry a lot in the car. i used to caress her cheeks and it would calm her down and she would eventually fall asleep. we called it "soffing" her cheeks. now i do the same to you and it works like a charm. i just use the backs of my fingers and stroke your face, especially around your temples, and you get drowsy and nod off. it's quite endearing.
you giggled for the first time this month too! your daddy was working at the computer and you and i were on the couch just playing. i had a blanket over the both of us and we were in our own little tent. i'm not sure what i did or said exactly, but all of a sudden you let out a bit laugh/giggle. i was shocked and told your dad to turn down the music we were playing to see if you would do it again and you did! ever the dutiful recorder, your father wrote it down in your baby book. the next night, we were playing together again. for some reason, i started saying, "wassup? wassup, my homie?" to you in a gravelly voice. you found this hilarious and just giggled and giggled. you beat watching tv any night.
in the last two weeks you have become a lot more vocal too. it's almost like we have our own conversations, you and i. you are quite pleased now that you have really found your voice. you just babble on and on especially while on the change table. last sunday at church you were behaving excellently, just sitting there quietly sucking on your bib. suddenly you belted out, "ya ya ya." it was a guest pastor who was preaching and he looked up in surprise. our normal pastor was sitting in the front row and he turned around and said, "amen ma soeur." he's already under your spell so there was no need to be afraid that he would be upset by the outburst.
you had your first vaccine this month. it was yucky. it was like you knew what you were in for as you started crying before we even got you up on the table to take your clothes off. granted it was chaotic in the cramped office as there were 4 adults, plus mommy and daddy. i wanted to cry too. your daddy stayed right near by you as he knows i hate needles just about more than anything. you only got one shot though so it was over quickly. needless to say, i am not looking forward to getting more when we come back from our trip home.
your fourth month of life promises to be very exciting as you get to meet all of your family! i know i am looking forward to it very much. i hope it doesn't go by as fast as this month has.
i love you so much my cutie patootie! i can't wait to see what new things you surprise me with tomorrow.
