well we made it here all in one piece. ayva slept straight 2 out of the 3 flights. she let out no more than a brief whine on the long flight when i was taking too long getting the milk jugs out. impeccable. the bassinet thing worked just great. the only bummer thing is that you have to take the baby out if the fasten seat belt sign comes on. i hate waking her when she's sleeping so thankfully it only happened once. the sign came on another time while i was feeding her and the flight attendants let me keep at it.
as expected, i received a few of those, "oh crap, please don't tell me i have to sit next to a baby!" looks when we found our seats. but while we were getting off i got more than one compliment about what a good baby she was and that they never heard her once. hee! i'm not saying i'd want to do this everyday, but it sure went so much better than i expected. thanks so much for all your advice, ladies!
now if only getting over jet lag was as easy. as ayva has been sleeping through the night since her first month, it's been a bit of a shock to my already messed up system to have to get up with her at strange hours. with each night that passes though, she's sleeping more and more comme d'habitude. henri had a cold before we left that turned into something worse on the plane with the air pressure. i had been fighting off his germs for a while, but the lack of sleep in the first few days did me in and now i'm sick too. yup, fun times. thankfully i remembered how crazy my trip was last year and scheduled few things in the first week besides family time. who knew i could be so smart?
one of the most fun things so far was getting ayva's 3 month pictures taken at sears yesterday. from the moment we got there, she was smiling up a storm. i think the girl took 10 shots, all of them adorable...ayva in jean overalls, ayva on her tummy in a diaper, avya sitting in a pail with towels and a rubber ducky, etc. it was so hard to make decisions of sizes and quantities and color enhancements, and of course i'll end up with way more than i need. i'll scan them and put them up when we get back to france. the cool thing is that the pictures will be available the day before we leave for the states. talk about good timing.
i was worried ayva would be overwhelmed by all the changes and new people and noises. she's been really accommodating of her three cousins all fawning over her. well except when amy, freshly turned 2, tickled her feet while she breastfeeds. she seems to going through a growth spurt now too as she has been eating almost non-stop and many of her sleepers and undershirts no longer fit her as they did back home. maybe there's just something in the canadian air. good thing i packed most of her entire wardrobe (better safe than sorry, right?), plus our baby shower is this saturday and maybe she'll get a few things she can wear now. i am so excited to see all my old friends!
i suppose i should be taking advantage of her current sleepy status and should take a nap as well. i'm learning, albeit very slowly.
